The Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) operates its own driving simulator laboratory at the Institute of Psychology, led by Prof. Dr. Markus Hackenfort. The simulator is used intensively there for research and teaching in the field of human factors, making ZHAW one of the leading academic institutions for driving simulation research in Switzerland. Prof. Dr. Hackenfort and his team investigate how human perception, cognitive performance, and behavior interact with modern traffic environments and driver assistance systems. The driving simulator laboratory provides the scientific basis for evidence-based approaches to road safety and makes a significant contribution to the further development of intelligent assistance systems in Switzerland. The setup is based on the S1 MAX two-seater from RacingFuel Simulators in combination with the SILAB software from WIVW Würzburg — the same proven configuration used at leading research institutions across Europe. This combination offers maximum scenario flexibility, precise data logging, and complete reproducibility of experimental conditions — ideal for experimental studies as well as for academic teaching.
